ZENA ROMMETT FLOOR-BARRE FOUNDATION, FOUNDED 1968 NYC
Dancer, Melinda Jackson
Zena dedicated her life to creating and teaching a method Zena Rommett Floor-Barre® that revolutionizes the body. Zena has passed however her legacy lives on through the Zena Rommett Floor-Barre Foundation, run by her daughter Camille Rommett, the mentors, dancers, and the many people who also now use her method for rehabilitation! I am a mentor and I have seen it change the lives of so very many. Currently I use it to strengthen the technique of the young dancers coming in to Professional Performing Arts School in NYC. Zena taught until she was 90 and always brought her love and dedication to the studio. She would treat every dancer as the most important person in the room. World famous dancers, choreographers, and those coming to dance for the first time were all welcomed with open and caring arms. Myself- I had always wanted to be able to perform ballet with physical confidence...however I was injured over and over and and did not know why or what to do about it. In just a few months with Zena I remember balancing solidly on one leg on high demi-pointe thinking “Oh my gosh! This is what I always wanted to be able to do!” Zena helped me to realize my dreams. She would tell us we had beautiful bodies and push us until we could do things we had only imagined ... safely with strength and physical knowledge. She changed the course of my life forever. I am continually grateful for Zena's belief in me, her simple humble genius, and her unending support. I am only one of many.
