ZENA ROMMETT FLOOR-BARRE FOUNDATION, FOUNDED 1968 NYC
Dancer, Melinda Jackson
Floor-Barre® is connected to classical ballet. The difference is that the muscle work and memory, in Floor-Barre®, is build from a sitting position with the back on the floor, or sitting up. This means that the muscles works more beneficial, our skeleton is naturally supported and the body is able to really lengthening without having pressure from the weight of the body. The floor gives us a more correct starting point for alignment in our neck, back and hips, which is essential for any dancer (and human in general). My center really changed after I started with Floor-Barre®. I became much stronger in my stomach and back. And my turn out's alignment is corrected through Floor-Barre. I was able to be stronger and more balanced in all other styles I practice. On an aesthetic note I feel my body can speak much more articulated. I feel my dancing has become more refined.
